Een salonboot is een boot met een vaste overkapping, ramen rondom en een verwarmde binnenruimte. De salon biedt plek aan tafels en zitbanken, waardoor het gezelschap droog en warm zit bij regen, wind en vorst. Bij mooi weer opent het buitendek. Een salonboot vaart daarmee het hele jaar door, terwijl een open sloep vooral in het seizoen aantrekkelijk is.
Utrecht ligt op twee niveaus. De werfkelders liggen direct aan het water, de straat ligt een verdieping hoger. Vanuit de salon kijk je daardoor recht op de kelders, de terrassen en de bruggen, in plaats van tegen een kade aan. Die vaarervaring vind je nergens anders in Nederland.
