Floating restaurant Amsterdam
Dining on a boat in Amsterdam means sitting at the table while the row of facades behind the window slides through. Real tables are set on the saloon boat, with a toilet on board and a panoramic roof that opens as soon as the weather cooperates.
The difference with a restaurant on the shore is in the service. The catering staff of Event op het Water sail along and serve the courses on board, without the boat having to dock on the way. At a BBQ there is a cook who prepares live.

Four ways to eat on board
The menu determines which boat fits and how long the cruise lasts. These four forms book guests most often:
1. Multi-course menu at the table
The classic dinner on the water. Guests sit at laid tables on the saloon boat, and the waiters serve out the corridors. This form requires at least 2.5 hours, giving 3 hours of rest between courses. A table arrangement with controls fits up to 70 people on one saloon boat.
2. Walking dinner
Small dishes that come in rounds, making the guests continue to walk around and change company. This shape works on any boat and also fits on an open sloop without fixed tables. A walking dinner is lower in price than a served multi-course menu.
3. Live cooking with a chef on board
The Cook sails along and prepares the dishes during the cruise. This form comes into its own most strongly with a BBQ boat in Amsterdam, where the grill is located on deck. The smell and preparation on board are part of the evening.
4. Luxury platters and finger food
Cold platters and snacks on the table, without a fixed course layout. This form is suitable for a cruise of one and a half hours and for companies that especially want to drink. For a theme, choose the tapas boat in Amsterdam or the steakhouses in Amsterdam.

What makes a boat a sailing restaurant?
A sailing restaurant in Amsterdam is a boat with a full-fledged table arrangement and accompanying service, where the complete menu is served during the cruise. The kitchen is on board or the dishes are covered from the quay.
On that last point, providers diverge. Some of the shipping companies in Amsterdam dock between the corridors at a restaurant along the canal and pick up the signs there. That costs two to three stops per evening and the dishes cool down on the way. At events on the Water, the boat continues to sail, because the service and food are already on board. The result is noticeable at the table: no interruptions between appetizer and main course.

& # 8220; We have had a very nice baby shower with my family and friends. As a pregnant woman have sailed through the canals of Amsterdam. Luckily we had beautiful weather and the baby shower decoration was beautiful. We really enjoyed the delicious freshly prepared BBQ, tasty snacks and delicious chilled drinks for an unforgettable baby shower.
Really recommended to go boating with an Event for my pregnant girlfriend as an expectant mother at one of the baby shower locations with an extensive high tea on, for example, a stylish salon boat as a baby shower location!”
Which Boat restaurant suits your company?
Not every boat has room for a set table. This division applies in Amsterdam:
- Luxury saloon boat (10 to 70 people): always covered and heated, with toilet and real tables. The only boat where a served multi-course menu comes into its own. Cruise through the canals from 2.5 hours.
- Open luxury sloop (10 to 65 people): open or covered, without fixed table arrangement. Suitable for a walking dinner, platters and appetizers. Cruise through the narrow canals from 1.5 hours.
- Passenger ship (40 to 250 people): several decks and a fixed bar, with a buffet or walking dinner setup. Sail over the IJ from 4 hours.
- Event ship (250 to 700 people): the largest capacity for a scale dinner, with room for a full catering set-up. Sail over the IJ from 4 hours.

Sailing restaurant or restaurant on shore
A restaurant in the city offers a set kitchen and a more extensive menu. A boat offers exclusivity and a decor that changes. Three practical differences determine the choice:
- Companionship: only your group sits on a boat, while a restaurant shares the room with other tables.
- Drink: beer, wine, soft drinks, coffee and tea are included in the cruise fare, so the final bill remains predictable.
- Map: the menu is fixed in advance, because a ship's kitchen is smaller than a restaurant kitchen.
That last point calls for a choice in advance. If you want to order à la carte on the evening itself, it is better to sit in a restaurant. Those who want a set menu for the whole group are better off on the water.

Dietary requirements and allergies on board
The ship's kitchen works with fixed numbers, so dietary wishes continue in advance. Event op het Water uses vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free in every package.
When applying, indicate how many people per Wish are involved. With a served multi-course menu, each guest with a different menu gets their own plate, with a walking dinner the adapted dishes go around separately. Allergies that lead to a risk of cross-contamination are reported by the sales department to the kitchen.

How much does it cost to dine on a boat in Amsterdam?
The bill consists of two parts: the cruise fare and the dinner package.
- Sailing from 1.5 hours: from € 39,95 per person incl. VAT
- Sailing from 3 hours: from € 57,95 per person incl. VAT
- Sailing on the IJ from 4 hours: from € 69,95 per person incl. VAT
The cruise fare includes the boat, the skipper, the catering staff and unlimited beer, wine, soft drinks, coffee and tea. The dinner arrangement comes on top of that and depends on the form of the menu: a walking dinner is lower than a served multi-course menu, live cooking with a chef on board is up there again.
Because the drinks are already included in the cruise fare, the final billing is more predictable than with providers who bill the cruise, the restaurant and the drink separately.

Frequently asked questions about dining on a boat in Amsterdam
Does the boat dock to pick up the food?
No. The catering staff sails along and serves the courses on board, allowing the boat to continue sailing. A number of other shipping companies in Amsterdam do dock between the corridors at a restaurant along the canal.
Which boat has real set tables?
The luxury saloon boat, with a table arrangement for 10 to 70 people. The saloon boat is always covered and heated, has a toilet on board and with part of the fleet the panoramic roof opens. An open sloop has no fixed tables and is better suited for a walking dinner.
From how many people is a private boat with dinner possible?
Book a private boat with dinner from 10 persons. Under that number, the boat, the skipper, the service and the kitchen put too much pressure on the price per person. For smaller companies there are separate tickets at fixed sailing times.
How long does a dinner on board take?
A served multi-course menu requires at least 2.5 hours, with 3 hours being the most booked. At an hour and a half, a walking dinner or a platter with appetizers will fit, not a full menu.
Can the menu be adjusted to dietary requirements?
Okay. Vegetarian, vegan, halal and gluten-free are possible in every package. When applying, indicate how many people per wish it is, so that the kitchen plants the numbers.
Is dining on the water also possible in winter?
Okay. The saloon boats sail all year round, always covered and heated. In good weather, the panoramic roof opens. Only in extreme weather conditions does the sales department look for an alternative date.
Can you bring your own wine or champagne on board?
Beer, wine, soft drinks, coffee and tea are already included in the rate, so your own drink is rarely needed. For a special bottle or a champagne reception, the sales department makes an appointment in advance.
