Why the sailing restaurant does not sail on the Meuse
The Meuse is the main waterway of Europe's largest port. Sea vessels, barges and water taxi’s cause waves, and you can notice that wave right at a set table. For a dinner with plates, glasses and service, Event op het Water therefore chooses the quiet side ports.
Four waters are eligible:
- Ferry terminal: the historic Marina at the Scheepvaartkwartier, with classic ships along the quay.
- Wijnhaven: between the White House and the Kop van Zuid, with modern architecture on both banks.
- Leuvehaven: past the Maritime Museum and the historic cranes, fully illuminated in the evening.
- De Rotte: narrower and greener, the water from which the city got its name.
If you want to see the Meuse and the wereldhaven, book a canal cruise over the Maas without dinner served at the table.

The evening is the strongest moment on the Rotterdam water. From sunset, the Erasmus Bridge, The Cranes of the Leuvehaven and the towers of the Kop van Zuid light up, and this image is reflected in the flat water of the side harbours.
Three practical points apply to a romantic dinner on board. The boat sails privately, so the company sets the pace of the evening itself. The table arrangement continues in advance, as a result of which a table is fixed by the window before the guests come on board. Table decoration, flowers and a champagne reception adds Event on the Water on request.
The minimum of 10 guests makes a romantic dinner for two part of a larger group. Think of a proposal during a family trip or an anniversary with friends. For the wedding day itself, the weddings in Rotterdam ready.

Dinner packages on board in Rotterdam
The menu determines the atmosphere of the evening and the required sailing duration. Four arrangements come back most often:
- Served menu: courses served at the table by accompanying staff, from 2.5 hours.
- Walking dinner: small dishes in rounds, thanks to which guests continue to walk around and change companies.
- Live cooking: a cook on board who prepares during the cruise, as on the BBQ boat in Rotterdam.
- Italian at one table: fresh pizza’s from the oven on board, bookable as steakhouses in Rotterdam.
A vegan, halal or gluten - free variant is included on each of the four packages, subject to prior registration. If you want to continue with a drink after dinner, look at the borrelboot in Rotterdam.

How much does a sailing restaurant cost in Rotterdam?
The bill consists of the cruise fare and the dinner package. The cruise fare includes the boat, the skipper, the service and unlimited beer, wine, soft drinks, coffee and tea.

The dinner arrangement comes on top of that. A walking dinner is lower than a served multi-course menu, live cooking with a chef on board is up there again. Because the drinks are already included in the cruise fare, the final bill remains predictable.

The Boompjeskade is the fixed starting point, near the Erasmus Bridge and a 10-minute walk from Rotterdam Blaak. Parking garages are in the immediate vicinity.

Frequently asked questions about dining on a boat in Rotterdam
Does the sailing restaurant sail over the Meuse?
No. The dinner sails through the quiet side ports: the ferry port, the wine port, the Leuvehaven and the Rotte. The Meuse itself has busy international shipping and waves, which makes a set table restless.
How many guests can fit at a table on board?
The minimum is 10 guests. The luxury sloop takes 10 to 60 guests, the drinks boat 25 to 100, the passenger ship 50 to 250 and the event ship 250 to 700. Above 100 guests, one continuous table disappears and the arrangement works with several tables per deck.
How long does a dinner on board take?
A served menu requires at least 2.5 hours. For one hour on the luxury sloop, a drink with snacks or a shared table fits, not a multi-course menu. A minimum of 4 hours applies for a wedding dinner on the passenger ship.
Is a romantic dinner for two possible?
On a private boat the minimum of 10 people applies, so a dinner for two is part of a larger group. A proposal during a family trip or an anniversary with friends will fit well. The table arrangement and decoration continue in advance.
When is the skyline the most beautiful from the water?
From sunset. The Erasmus Bridge, The Cranes of the Leuvehaven and the Kop van Zuid are then highlighted and mirror in the flat water of the side ports. In winter, that time falls around 17.00.
How does the kitchen cope with allergies?
The ship's kitchen cooks on fixed numbers, so allergies and dietary requirements please report at the request and not on board. In the event of a risk of cross-contamination, the sales department coordinates directly with the Cook.
Does the boat also sail in winter?
Okay. All boats are covered and heated, allowing a dinner on the water to continue throughout the year. The side ports of Rotterdam are quiet in winter and are easily navigable.
