Dining on the Oudegracht or on more spacious water?

This is the most important choice for a dinner cruise in Utrecht, and most providers do not explain it. The inner city canals are beautiful, but the bridges over the Oudegracht are low. That is why Event sails on the Water there with the open luxury sloop, which takes up to 25 people.

On a sloop, you sit on benches along the side, not at a set table. That works great for a walking dinner, tapas or luxury platters that go around, but less so for a classic three-course menu with a knife and fork. If you want a larger group at the table, you need more water.

From the Keulsekade you sail with the drink boat on the Amsterdam-Rhine canal, where no bridge height plays a role. There, a company of up to 70 people fits at set tables. You exchange the canal houses for open water and more comfort.

What's on the table?

In Utrecht, many providers work with packages where you disembark on the way: food in three different restaurants, or hot dishes that are picked up halfway from a kitchen. How much does a dinner boat cost in Utrecht?

The price consists of the cruise and the dinner package. The cruise starts from € 29.95 per person incl. VAT on the open luxury sloop and increases to € 55.95 per person for the longer routes with the saloon boat or drinks boat. It contains the boat, the skipper, the catering staff and unlimited beer, wine, soft drinks, coffee and tea.

The dinner arrangement comes on top of that and depends on the menu. A walking dinner is lower than a three-course meal. When comparing quotes, pay attention to whether the drink is included: in this market, a drink package is often counted separately, which means that the amount per person is higher afterwards.

Utrecht is a small city with a lot of water, and that makes a dinner on board here more personal than elsewhere. You do not sail past the city but through the middle of it, on a level where you can see the facades up close and look into the shipyard cellars.

Bookings can be made from 10 people. For the city center that is a sloop for up to 25 guests, for a seated dinner a saloon boat or a drink boat for up to 70 guests. You decide the menu, the route and the time yourself, the rest is arranged.
