The unveiling moment on board
The practical part most people are stuck with: how does the reveal work on a boat?
The best point is halfway through the cruise. You leave, everyone gets a drink, the first laps are made and the tension is built up. Somewhere around the middle you ask the skipper to lie still, for example on the Spaarne or in one of the canals of Haarlem where it's quiet. Then there is no engine noise, the boat is stable and the photographer has a fixed image.
About the means: discuss with the skipper in advance what is possible on board. Smoke, fireworks and confetti are more sensitive on the water than in a garden, and the skipper is the one who deals with that. Which in any case works without hassle:
- Cutting a cake with pink or blue filling, prepared by a baker in Haarlem and kept on board.
- Opening a box with balloons in it, which you then just hold inside instead of letting go.
- A closed envelope which the skipper or a guest hands over at the agreed time.
- Dressing in both colors until the moment itself, after which only the right color will linger.
Do not Plan the moment at the very end. After the unveiling, everyone wants to talk, take photos and toast, and you still need half an hour of sailing for that.

- There is a bluetooth speaker on board, so you set up your own list and choose the number for the moment yourself.
- Photographer. Feel free to take one with you; it counts as a guest and has enough space on board to move.

How much does a gender reveal cost in Haarlem?
The rate per person depends on how long you sail. Boat, skipper, service and drinks are always in it, including VAT.
- 1.5 hours: € 32 per person
- 2 hours: € 39 per person

An example: twenty guests who sail for two hours end up at around € 780 including VAT and drinks. For a gender reveal, two hours is a pleasant length, because then there is time for the run-up, the moment itself and the reactions afterwards. Getting off at the Nieuwe Gracht

How many guests can go?
A minimum of ten and a maximum of Seventy on one sloop. Most gender reveals are between fifteen and thirty guests. For larger parties, several sloops can sail out at the same time.
Can the skipper stand still before the unveiling?
Yes, that is possible in most places in the canals and on the Spaarne. Indicate in advance that you want a fixed moment, then the skipper will take this into account when sailing the route. On busy passages, stopping is not always possible.
Can you use confetti or smoke on board?
That is different for each boat and situation, and the skipper decides on that. Ask for it at the application, and you will know it well before the day itself. A cake, a balloon box or an envelope always works and gives the same effect on the photos.
Can we bring our own decorations?
Okay. You just take garlands, balloons and tablecloths with you. Come fifteen minutes before departure, then you can arrange the sloop before the guests arrive.
How much does a gender reveal cost on the boat?
The rates start at € 32 per person including VAT for one and a half hours and go up to € 53 for three hours. Sloop, crew, service and unlimited drinks are in it. Cake, snacks and decoration are budgeted separately.
Does the cruise continue in the rain?
Okay. The sloop closes and is heated, so a downpour does not overturn the schedule. Only at storm do we look for another day together.
