Four boarding locations in Amsterdam
Where you step on determines how easy it will be for the guests. Amsterdam has four permanent locations, all in or near the city centre:
- Amsterdam Central Station, Prins Hendrikkade 33A. the logical choice if the family comes from outside the city.
- The IJ, De Ruyterkade 14. Here are the passenger ships and event ships.
- Anne Frank House, Prinsengracht 267. In the middle of the canal belt, suitable for sloops and saloon boats.
- Rijksmuseum, Useful if the Family Day is combined with a museum visit.
By default, boarding and alighting take place in the same place, but a transfer from one location to another is also possible. If you prefer to sail outside Amsterdam, check out the family day in Haarlem.

- Food that everyone can eat. One bbq on board works better than a seated dinner, because guests decide for themselves when to eat and with whom to sit at the table.
- Drinks for young and old. Unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks are included, and juices and lemonade are available for children.
- Own music. There is a bluetooth speaker on board, so you can make the playlist yourself. Useful if there is a list of request numbers of three generations.

The price per person depends on the type of ship and its duration. All amounts include VAT, skipper, catering staff and unlimited beer, wine, soft drinks, coffee and tea.
- Luxury open sloop: from € 49,95 per person

If the day ends, you charge the boat rental plus the drinks per extra hour. For a sloop, this is from € 210 in Boat Rental and € 9.95 per person in drinks, for a saloon boat from € 425 and € 11.50. This is useful to know in advance, because a family day ends more often than a business outing. Catering and entertainment are budgeted separately. What is a family day on the water?
A family day on the water is a private cruise where the whole family or staff with families goes on board. The skipper sails a route through the canals or across the IJ, while eating and drinking on board. Skipper, service and drinks are included in the price.
How many guests can go?
It depends on the ship. A luxury sloop can accommodate 10 to 40 people, a saloon boat for 10 to 70, a passenger ship for 40 to 250 and an event ship for 250 to 700 guests. Amsterdam is the only city where all four types sail.
Is a family day on the boat suitable for children?
Yes, provided that a parent or carer accompanies you. Children's life jackets are available on request, and the crew takes into account young guests. On the saloon boat and the larger ships there is a toilet on board, which is nice with small children.
Can an employer book a family day for employees and families?
Yes, that is one of the most booked forms. For large groups, the passenger ships and event ships sail across the IJ, up to 700 people. One invoice will be sent, including VAT and without Post-calculation on the drinks.
What happens in bad weather?
There is just sailing. The boats are covered and heated, and with part of the fleet the roof slides open as soon as it clears. That's why a family day in november can be planned just as well as one in June.
How long does a family day on board last?
You can book a sloop or saloon boat from 1.5 to 2.5 hours, the larger ships sail for at least four hours. For a family day with food on board, three hours is a pleasant lower limit, because then there is time to eat without rushing.
How far in advance should I book?
For a sloop or saloon boat, a few weeks in advance is usually sufficient. For a passenger ship or event ship, we recommend booking well in advance, especially for weekends in the high season. You will receive a confirmation of availability within 24 hours.
