The light artworks are set up along the canals and are at their most beautiful from the water. You sail along it, under it and sometimes right through it. Event op het Water has boats for 2 to 70 people on the canals. For large groups of up to 700 people, there are passenger and event ships on the IJ.

Saloon boats are more luxurious than the sloops and have a more classic look inside. A classic salon is always covered. In a number of saloon boats, the panorama roof can be opened. What is the Amsterdam Light Festival?
Every winter, the Amsterdam Light Festival transforms the historic city centre into an open-air museum full of light art. National and international artists create light artworks along the canals and waterways especially for the festival. You can follow the route on foot, by bike or from the water.
The upcoming edition 15 will take place from 26 november 2026 to 17 January 2027. The lights come on every evening around 5pm and remain on until late in the evening. Along the route there are more than 20 unique works of light art, which come into their own most beautifully from the water due to the reflections on the canals. The theme changes every year and is revealed in advance.
A cruise usually takes 75 to 90 minutes and departs near Amsterdam Central Station. From the boat you sail past, under and sometimes right through the works of art, while you sit warm and dry with a drink in hand.

How much does a cruise during the Amsterdam Light Festival cost?
The price depends on the type of boat, the group size, the sailing duration and your extra wishes. Because you book a private boat for your own party, you charge per boat or per person, always incl. VAT and unlimited drinks.

When is the Amsterdam Light Festival 2026 - 2027?
The upcoming edition runs from 26 november 2026 to 17 January 2027. The light artworks burn every evening from about 17.00. It is best to book a cruise well in advance, because the evenings are popular and quickly full.
Where does the cruise leave during the light festival?
The boats of Event op het Water leave close by Amsterdam Central Station, so you can easily get by public transport. The exact boarding location is in your confirmation. In consultation, another boarding or alighting place is often possible.
How long does a light festival cruise take?
A cruise along the light artworks usually takes 75 to 90 minutes. Do you want to sail longer, dine or have a drink on board? Then you choose a longer sailing time or a saloon boat. You can adjust the duration to your company and wishes.
Do I sail privately or with strangers?
At Event op het Water you book always a private boat for your own company. So you are not among unknown tourists, but sail with your own group, your own skipper and your own route. That makes the evening personal and relaxed.
What is included in the cruise?
By default you get a skipper, service and unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks, plus Coffee and tea. The boats are heated and covered. Extras such as dinner, bbq, snacks or decoration are optional.
How much does a boat trip during the light festival cost?
A private sloop starts in terms of boat rental from € 210,- per hour, with drinks from € 9.95 per person, all incl. VAT. Per person there is a cruise around € 39.95. The exact price depends on Boat, Group and duration and you get a tailor-made quote.
Is there another boat available on my date?
